How to Move a Worksheet in a Workbook

To move a worksheet within a workbook, you have to:

  1. Click on the tab of the worksheet you want to move
  2. Hold and drag your mouse
  3. Release the mouse button (drop)

Duplicate a sheet in a workbook

The technique is similar to that of moving a sheet.

  1. Select the worksheet you want to duplicate
  2. Press the Ctrl key on your keyboard.
  3. Drag & drop the worksheet tab
  4. You can see the symbol "+" (indicating you are copying the worksheet) inside the icon.
  5. Release the button of the mouse and your worksheet is duplicated.

Copy a worksheet to a new workbook.

This technique works with any version of Excel. If you want to copy a worksheet to a new workbook, you can do it like this:

  1. Select the worksheet you want to export
  2. Right-Click
  3. Select Move or Copy
  4. In the upper dropdown list the option (New book)
  5. Check the option Create a copy

If you want to move the original worksheet to a new workbook, don't check the option "Create a copy".

Move or Copy a sheet to another workbook

In Excel 2013 and later, there are tips to move or copy an Excel worksheet between 2 workbooks.

  1. Place your workbooks side by side
  2. Select the worksheet you want to transfer
  3. Drag & drop
  4. Your worksheet has been moved 😍😎
  5. If you want to copy (instead of move), press the Ctrl key at the same time. Otherwise, the data will be moved by default.
