Free Add-ins to Go To a Column Header

Description

This add-in has been created to save a lot of time when you work with a table with tenths or hundredths columns to reach a specific column header.

Navigating Excel columns in large tables can be a hassle, especially when working with wide datasets. Scrolling endlessly to find the right column wastes time and reduces productivity. But now, it's over because this add-in will go to any column header with just a right-click 😮

Installing the Add-In

1. Once downloaded, copy the file to Excel’s default add-in folder. There is a shortcut to access to this folder. Write %appdata% is your File Explorer to go directly to this folder

C:Users.....AppDataRoamingMicrosoftAddIns

2. Then, you go to the folder Microsoft>AddIns
3. Copy the file into this new folder.

 

Note: Due to enhanced security settings, Microsoft blocks all the macros downloaded from the web. Follow these steps to unblock downloaded macros.

Installing the Add-In

1. Open Excel and navigate to the Developer tab (if you don't have the Developer tab, go to this tutorial)
2. Click on Excel Add-ins.

3. If the add-in was copied correctly to the Add-ins folder, you should see GoToTableColumn in the list.
4. To activate the add-in, check the box next to it.

If the add-in isn’t listed, click Browse, find the file GoToColumnHeader.xlam, and select it.

How to Use the Add-In to Navigate easily to an Excel column

To quickly go to columns in an Excel workbook, your data must be inserted as a Table (Insert > Table). This allows the add-in to recognize and "read" the column names.

Once activated:

1. Select any cell in your Table.
2. Right-click to bring up the context menu.
3. Choose the Go To option (third on the menu).
4. From the list of columns, select the one you want to navigate to.
5. Excel will move the active cell to the header of that column! It’s as simple as that 🎉
