Percentage Data Label in Your Excel Chart

In an Excel chart, you can display your data label as a percentage of the total without doing any calculations 😀👍

  1. Create a pie chart. This is the best chart type to display values or percentage
  2. Add labels to your chart
  3. Change the options of the labels. Among the label options, you can replace the values with percentage

Step 1: Add the data label to the chart

The first thing you need to do is to add data labels to your chart.

  1. Select your chart
  2. Click on the + at the top right
  3. Select the Data label check box

At this time, the labels match the values in your table.

Step 2: Open the label pane

Next, open the label pane. You can do this in 2 ways

  • Or, from the chart, by clicking on the arrow to the right of the data labels menu and finally, Other options

  • Or by double-clicking on the labels in the chart.

In both cases, you open the label options pane on the right side of your worksheet.

Step 3: Change the label contains to percentage in your Excel chart

Now, In the option's label (the icon that looks like a chart), you see the Percentage option.

Click on this option to instantly convert your data label into the percentage of the total in your Excel chart😀👏👍

Step 4: Display multiple values in the labels

This step is not compulsory, but it will show you that you can include several pieces of information in a single data label. For example, here, we have chosen to display

  • Values
  • The percentage
  • As a separator, a line break
  • And finally, the positioning is on the inner edge

    My excel does not give me the % option for data labels... it gives the other options shown in your screen shot...
