How to add a slicer with Excel Online? There are 2 techniques

Update of the ribbon of Excel Online

Working with Excel Online is always tricky. Because you never know when Excel Online will be updated and which part will be updated. For instance, when I wrote this article in November 2020, there was no option in the Pivot Table ribbon to add a slicer

But since 2023, the Slicer menu has ben added to the ribbon.

And also, you can notice that the general interface of Excel Online looks similar to the Excel desktop ribbon.

Technique #2: Use the right-click to add a slicer with Excel Online?

For a long time, this was the only way to add a slicer with Excel Online.

  1. Go to the Pivot Table pane
  2. Put your mouse over a field
  3. Click on the arrow
  4. Select the option Add a slicer

In conclusion, this second technique is my favorite, even with Excel Desktop. Why? It's because you save a lot of time here.

  • With the second technique, you easily add a slicer for any field
  • With the first technique, you must open each table before finding the field you want as a slicer.
