How to add a slicer with Excel Online? There are 2 techniques
Update of the ribbon of Excel Online
Working with Excel Online can be challenging due to the unpredictable nature of its updates. The timing and specific areas of these updates are often uncertain. For example, when I wrote this article in November 2020, the Pivot Table ribbon lacked an option to add a slicer. But since 2023, the Slicer menu has been added to the ribbon 😀👍
And also, you can notice that the general interface of Excel Online looks similar to the Excel desktop ribbon.
Technique #2: Use the right-click to add a slicer with Excel Online?
This was the only way to add a slicer in Excel Online before 2023.
- Go to the Pivot Table pane
- Put your mouse over a field
- Click on the arrow on the right
- Select the option Add a slicer
The trick is so impressive that it has now been incorporated, with some variation, into the Excel desktop version.
- Go to the Pivot Table pane
- Put your mouse over a field
- Right-click on the field
- Select the option Add a slicer
In conclusion, this second technique is my favorite, even with Excel Desktop. Why? You save a lot of time here.
- With the second technique, you can quickly add a slicer for any field.
- With the first technique, you must open each table before finding the field you want as a slicer.
