Navigate Excel Columns Easily with this Free Add-In

Navigating Excel columns in large tables can be a hassle, especially when working with wide datasets. Scrolling endlessly to find the right column wastes time and reduces productivity. To solve this issue, I’ve created a simple add-in that allows you to:

  • Jump directly to any column with just a right-click
  • Save time and effort navigating your data
  • Improve your overall workflow in Excel

Download the Add-In

  1. To get started, click here to download the GoToTableColumn add-in.
  1. Once downloaded, copy the file to Excel’s default add-in folder
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AddIns
  1. Make sure to replace UserName with your own username.
  2. Note: Due to enhanced security settings, you may need to unblock the file before using it. Follow these steps to unblock downloaded macros.

Installing the Add-In

  1. Open Excel and navigate to the Developer tab.

  • If you don’t see the Developer tab, go to File > Options > Customize Ribbon, and check the box next to Developer.

  1. Once the Developer tab is visible, click on Excel Add-ins.

  1. If the add-in was copied correctly to the Add-ins folder, you should see GoToTableColumn in the list.
  2. To activate the add-in, simply check the box next to it.

If the add-in isn’t listed, click Browse, find the file GoToTableColumn.xlam, and select it.

How to Use the Add-In to Navigate easily to and Excel column

To quickly navigate to columns in an Excel workbook, your data must be inserted as a Table (Insert > Table). This allows the add-in to recognize and "read" the column names.

Once activated:

  1. Select any cell in your Table.
  2. Right-click to bring up the context menu.
  3. Choose the Go To option (third on the menu).
  4. From the list of columns, select the one you want to navigate to.

As soon as you select a column, Excel will take you directly to it! It’s as simple as that 🎉
