Navigating Excel columns in large tables can be a hassle, especially when working with wide datasets. Scrolling endlessly to find the right column wastes time and reduces productivity. To solve this issue, I’ve created a simple add-in that allows you to:
- Jump directly to any column with just a right-click
- Save time and effort navigating your data
- Improve your overall workflow in Excel
Download the Add-In
- To get started, click here to download the GoToTableColumn add-in.
- Once downloaded, copy the file to Excel’s default add-in folder
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AddIns
- Make sure to replace
UserName
with your own username. - Note: Due to enhanced security settings, you may need to unblock the file before using it. Follow these steps to unblock downloaded macros.
Installing the Add-In
- Open Excel and navigate to the Developer tab.

- If you don’t see the Developer tab, go to File > Options > Customize Ribbon, and check the box next to Developer.

- Once the Developer tab is visible, click on Excel Add-ins.

- If the add-in was copied correctly to the Add-ins folder, you should see GoToTableColumn in the list.
- To activate the add-in, simply check the box next to it.

If the add-in isn’t listed, click Browse, find the file GoToTableColumn.xlam, and select it.
How to Use the Add-In to Navigate easily to and Excel column
To quickly navigate to columns in an Excel workbook, your data must be inserted as a Table (Insert > Table). This allows the add-in to recognize and "read" the column names.
Once activated:
- Select any cell in your Table.
- Right-click to bring up the context menu.
- Choose the Go To option (third on the menu).
- From the list of columns, select the one you want to navigate to.

Instantly Move to Your Selected Column
As soon as you select a column, Excel will take you directly to it! It’s as simple as that 🎉
